Barron County is on the Move! |
|
Representatives from several communities in Barron County came together at Cumberland Elementary School on Thursday, February 14th to kick off the Barron County 10,000 Steps Challenge. Pictured from left to right are Stephanie Fleming of Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, Danielle Maxwell from the Turtle Lake Administration Office, Char Mlejnek of Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, Jeanette Olsen of Healthier Cumberland, Mary Jean Jergenson of Cumberland Hospital and Healthier Cumberland, and Mayor Sylvia Olson of Barron. These adults and several other volunteers walked with students and helped punch Mile Marker cards as Cumberland Elementary started their second annual Feeling Good Mileage Club recess walking program. The Barron County 10,000 Steps Challenge is sponsored by Healthier Cumberland, Barron County Health Department, Lakeview Medical Center, Cumberland Memorial Hospital, and Luther Midelfort Northland. Participants are encouraged to wear step counters (pedometers) to track daily step totals during the six-week program. The goal is to add 2000 extra steps to your daily activities, eventually working up to a total of 10,000 steps each day. To increase the fun and motivation, a trophy will be awarded to the Barron County community that has the highest percentage of participants that reach one or both of these goals. More information on the challenge can be found at www.healthiercumberland.org. |
