Healthier Cumberland to Host Two Drop In and Dance Events

“The best things happen when you’re dancing” (Irving Berlin, 1953). Healthier Cumberland agrees and has scheduled two Drop In and Dance nights at the Das Lach Haus on Thursday, January 31st and Thursday, February 28th.  These events are free and open to anyone high school age and older. No pre-registration is necessary.

Dancing is a unique form of exercise because it provides the heart healthy benefits of an aerobic exercise while also allowing you to engage in a social activity. Mayo Clinic researchers reported that social dancing helps to reduce stress, increase energy, improve strength, and increase muscle tone and coordination.  In addition, dancing is especially stimulating to the mind. A 21-year study published in the New England Journal of Medicine even found that dancing can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia in the elderly.

On Thursday, January 31st, instructor Don Poettker will present a group lesson on ballroom/swing type dancing from 6:30-7:30 PM, followed by dancing from 7:30-8:30 PM.  The second Drop in and Dance will be held on Thursday, February 28th. Instructors David and Karen Goggin will teach ballroom/swing type dancing with a group lesson from 6:30-7:30 PM and dancing from 7:30-9:00 PM.   Please note that no food or beverage carry-ins will be allowed.  The Das Lach Haus has generously donated use of their facilities and will have the beverage counter open for both events.
