Healthier Cumberland to Sponsor Emotional Eating Series
starting with “Food and Your Mood” on October 16th

Do you find yourself craving certain foods?
Do you notice you’re anxious and irritable in the late afternoon?
Does your mood improve after eating certain foods?

Emotional eating can sabotage your efforts to eat healthy and control your weight.

A three part community series on Emotional Eating will begin on Tuesday, October 16th at 6:30 pm in the front lobby of the Cumberland Hospital and Clinic with a presentation called Food and Your Mood. Dr. Colleen Warner, Licensed Psychologist, from Woodland Psychological Services will present information on the relationship between what you eat and your emotions. The food we eat contains the building blocks for neurotransmitters - chemical substances in our brain that regulate mood and behavior. In this one hour program you will learn how poor diet can contribute to depression, anger, and anxiety.  In contrast, a healthy diet can improve your thinking and your mood. Dr. Warner, a clinical psychologist who specializes in helping people make behavioral changes to improve their health, will present simple dietary changes that can help stabilize your mood. These changes will also reduce your cravings for quick carbohydrates that lead to weight gain. This important information will help you look and feel better!

The Emotional Eating series is sponsored by Healthier Cumberland. Sessions two and three will be held on November 6th and November 13th and will focus on stress and how our thinking affects our food choices. There is no charge to attend these programs, and individuals can choose to attend one or all of the presentations. Healthier Cumberland is funded by the Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program, a component of the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin endowment at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
