Healthier Cumberland to Sponsor Community Health Fair |
“Fall into Health” by attending a community wellness event sponsored by Healthier Cumberland on Friday, September 21st from 6 – 9 am at the Cumberland Middle School. This event is free and open to all ages. Local health professionals and agencies will present health information with more than 20 displays and interactive activities. Display topics range from heart disease, diabetes, stress, and disabilities to nutrition, fitness options in the Cumberland area, and family and senior resources in Barron County. The event will feature FREE health screenings for adults living or working in the Cumberland area. The early morning time is offered because several screenings are fasting blood tests that require no eating or drinking for 12 hours before coming in. The screenings will include known risk factors for heart disease and diabetes such as blood pressure, waist measurement, blood sugar and fats (cholesterol and triglycerides), all related to metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a collection of health risks that, when combined, increase the chance of developing heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Breakfast refreshments will be available for participants while they wait to discuss screening results with a nurse. |
