Healthier Cumberland to Host a Community Kick-Off Event

Healthier Cumberland Coalition (HCC) will be hosting a free Community Kick-Off Event on March 27th at the Cumberland Middle School.  This evening of information and inspiration promises to be fun for the entire family and will feature a presentation by adventure cyclist, author, and actor Willie Weir.  Willie will entertain and inspire us to lead a more active lifestyle as he takes us on a humorously bumpy ride through the subcontinent of India.

HCC is a group of citizens with a common goal of improving health in the Cumberland community. HCC recently received a three-year grant from the Medical College of Wisconsin's Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program to implement a project to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors related to dietary intake and physical activity in Cumberland.  This event will celebrate the kick-off of several HCC community programs, including screening for risk factors of heart disease and diabetes, healthy lifestyle coaching, and community fitness and nutrition challenges.

Doors will open at 5:30 pm on March 27th for healthy snacks, blood pressure screening, and information on health and fitness.  One of the highlights will be the introduction of a new map of local biking routes that was created by Cumberland resident Todd Barrows. The presentation will start at 6:30 pm and will include a word on health from local physician Dr. Tom Lingen, followed by Willie Weir.  The night will conclude with a drawing for prizes, featuring an adult touring bicycle.
