Volunteers Paint Peaceful Playground™ Games at CES |
|||
Adult and student volunteers spent a recent Saturday morning painting Peaceful Playground™ games on the blacktopped area of the Cumberland Elementary school playground. Principal Jim Richie purchased the program blueprint and supplies with Carol White PEP Grant funds. The Healthier Cumberland Coalition assisted with coordination of volunteers. The purpose of the Peaceful Playground™ program is to introduce children to different activity choices and increase motivation to play. This reduces playground confrontations and increases physical activity. Games include hopscotch, four-square, long ball, and circle activities. Students have been learning how to play the games during physical education classes. Cumberland Elementary staff report that the students are really enjoying their new playground.
