Plug In to Fitness with the Healthier Cumberland Fall Community Health Challenge

Healthier Cumberland is sponsoring a fall community health challenge called Plug In to Fitness. This event will begin on September 24th and will run for 6 weeks.  Participants will record daily minutes of physical activity AND time spent in front of a screen watching television, movies, playing video games, or surfing the internet.  The goals of the Plug In to Fitness community challenge are to increase our amount of daily physical activity, reduce our sedentary screen time, and “plug in” to new ways of getting physical activity in the Cumberland area.  Participants that complete and submit their challenge log books will have the opportunity to win prizes, including a one-year family membership to the Cumberland School Fitness Center.
The Plug In to Fitness community challenge is free and open to all ages. Three challenge kick off events will be taking place this week:

  • Drive through the Subway/Video Vault parking lot (at the 4-way stop in Cumberland) between 6:45 and 8:30 am on Monday, September 24th to get your challenge log book and a free bottle of water!
  • Free baseline fitness measures will be offered from 6-8 PM at the Cumberland High School Track on Monday, September 24th.  Participants will walk one mile and then calculate their current fitness level.  This event will be offered again at the end of the challenge.
  • A Community Bike Ride will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 9 am starting from the First Lutheran Church parking lot.  All ages and cycling abilities welcome.  Choose one of several routes with varying lengths.  There is no charge to participate, but you must wear helmet.

Personal tracking log books are also available at the Cumberland Hospital, Cumberland Federal Bank, Toftness Chiropractic and the Cumberland School District Administration Office until September 28th.
