Healthier Cumberland will be starting StrongWomen classes in the community this summer. StrongWomen is a strength-training program for midlife and older women that was developed through the work of Dr. Miriam Nelson. The benefits of strength training for older women have been studied extensively. They include increased muscle mass and strength, improved bone density, reduced risk for osteoporosis and bone fractures, improved self-confidence, better sleep, more energy, and reduced risk of chronic diseases.
Certified StrongWomen instructors Beth Narges and Mary Gwin will be offering a free informational presentation for the public on Tuesday, June 10th at 6:00 PM in the Cumberland Middle School Commons. They will cover the health benefits of the program, summer class schedule, and class registration fees and supplies. Residents of Cumberland and surrounding communities are welcome to attend. No pre-registration is required for the informational meeting. For more information, contact Beth at 419-0689.
