Don’t let extra pounds keep you warm this winter! Learn how to have fun and stay fit at the 2nd Annual Healthier Cumberland Winter Fitness Expo. This event will begin at 5:15 PM on Friday, November 14th at the Cumberland Middle School. Displays featuring both indoor and outdoor winter fitness options available in the Cumberland area will be highlighted from 5:15 – 7:00 PM. Local activity experts and class instructors will be available to answer questions and give demonstrations. There will also be games for kids and a light supper. The evening will conclude with dancing and entertainment provided by Duck for the Oyster beginning at 7:00 PM. Duck for the Oyster is one of the Midwest’s best traditional dance bands and a favorite among both kids and adults.
The Winter Fitness Expo also will kick off a new Healthier Cumberland community health challenge called “Maintain…Don’t Gain” over the holidays. Area residents will have the opportunity to challenge themselves to maintain their weight this holiday season for better health and the chance to win cash prizes of up to $250. Participants can weigh in at the Winter Fitness Expo on November 14th or at one of the participating Cumberland wellness centers between November 17th and November 24th. Challenge logbooks will be provided and participants will be encouraged to exercise and track the number of calories they eat most days of the holiday season. Weigh outs will take place between January 5th and 9th. Participating wellness centers include Cumberland Hospital Wellness Center, Cumberland High School Fitness Center, and Curves for Women in Cumberland. Please note that weigh-ins will only be conducted during the normal hours of operation at each of these facilities.
The Winter Fitness Expo and the “Maintain…Don’t Gain” challenge are free and open to participants of all ages. For more information, call Jeanette at 419-0774.
